We are finally in Sicily after crossing the Stretto di Messina by Ferry. The ferry was really fast and well organized considering that there will over 20 ferries a day going from Calabria to Sicily and vice versa.
The ferry was incredible because offered a lovely playground for Children.
When we arrived in Taormina we finally started experiencing why having a car is such a horrible thing. To try to reach our apartment booked through airbnb we had to go around the town for over 1 hour. A lot of streets were only accessibles by locals with special permits so the TOM TOM wasn’t able to find the right street to take in order to avoid the fines.
The streets are narrow, the signs are little, and as all sicily the Traffic light are switched off so you don’t have to worry that someone will cross the street on a red light.
Taormina is beautiful but at the same time the tourism is destroying the experience of visiting the city. And after few days we just wanted to leave and go in a more relaxed city.
Taormina is great for 1 day trip or for maximum 2 nights stay. We stayed 5 nights and it was really difficult to enjoy it fully.

In order to start saving some money, we decided to book an apartment with Airbnb. Francesco, the owner, was really helpful and offered us a great service that didn’t make us regretting our choice.
The flat was a simple 2 bedroom in the heart of the old town. So everything was accessible by foot and that it’s a must considering the problems with the viability in Taormina. Also we love towns that are pedestrian only and Taormina almost fit the bill. (there were still cars passing by in the pedestrian area now and then)

Taormina is famous for its Greek theatre and amazing architecture. Every single street is a little gem and you could take hundreds of photos and still missing a good part of it.
